A specialist pumping unit is connected in place of a radiator or at the pump head, and it circulates water and cleaning chemicals through every part of the system at high flow but low pressure. Flow reversal, agitation of individual radiators and a powerful magnet trap are used to lift and capture the black iron oxide sludge that accumulates inside radiators and pipework over the years. That sludge is not dirt from outside — it is your own system corroding from within. Water sitting against steel radiators slowly produces magnetite, a fine black iron oxide that settles at the bottom of radiators, coats the inside of the boiler's heat exchanger and grinds away at the pump bearings.
